We have received a report that the iPhones coming in 2020 will bring a significant upgrade over its predecessors in 2019 but the latest rumor sounds more like an under the hood improvement. According to the source, the 2020 iPhones would feature sensor-shift image stabilization technology instead of the conventional stabilization of the camera.

We all know that majority of smartphones available today come with optical image stabilization. Now, the upcoming smartphones, including 2020 iPhones are expected to come with sensor-shift stabilization where the sensor itself is moving to counteract shakes instead of the optics.

What we couldn’t confirm is the reasons behind the upgrade by Apple; whether the company is doing it for better camera performance, image quality or they are just looking for a way to save up some precious space and thus reduce the camera bumps on the back. Another reason could also be cost-related.

In any case, we still have too little information regarding the sensor-shift technology so we would have to wait for it to unfold.
