Stop the spill from the source

The first step you take when there is a spill on your phone is to stop the spill from the source. Or remove the phone from the spill immediately to cushion the effect of the spill.

Turn off the phone or remove the battery

The next step to take in other to fix water damaged phone is to take out the battery as soon as you can. Taking out the battery is necessary as it interrupts the flow of current in the phone. For most recent phones with sealed designs, you may not be able to remove the battery. So the only option here would be to switch off the phone like you usually would.

Break It Down

If the water has seeped into deep areas of your phone, you will need some technical skills to do a proper cleaning. It will be a great idea to take your phone apart by unscrewing. This is a bit tricky so there’s a caveat to it; only unscrew your phone if you are technically inclined. Also, do not try to lose certain areas you may have difficulty putting back together. If this option is a bit of a task for you, visit a mobile phone service centre.

Clean and Dry It Off

Don’t be afraid to give your phone a gentle shake so the liquid can find a way out. Do a thorough check to see how much liquid has gone into your phone. If the quantity of liquid that got into the phone is small, use a paper towel to clean the surface of the phone. It’s also worth noting that you need a lot of patience to allow the water to dry off properly.

Replace the battery and observe

Power on the phone and observe if there’s any abnormal behaviour. If your phone is working as expected, you would have fixed your water damaged phone. If at this point, your phone no longer powers on, contact a mobile phone service centre.
