Moto G6 Play Specs

Motorola entered the smartphone world in the year 2011, when the company parted into two different sectors. The Motorola Enterprise was in charge of the enterprise solutions, which was obviously acquired by Google later on. And Motorola Phones started wobbling in late 2013. But the ray of hope came by when Lenovo acquired Motorola Phones by the year 2014. After that, the journey started to smoothen up, and Motorola keeps launching new and exciting phones in the market. Here we will give a complete review of Moto G6 Play Specs.

After launching their first android phone and tablet in 2011, Motorola keeps on surprising their fans with the amazing phones. G Series was a huge success for them. After Z Series, they introduced G Series in the market.

In particular

The all-new G6 and the G6 were launched on the same date. It was announced in the mid of April and hit the stores in May 2018.

Motorola is now walking down the road holding the hands of Lenovo. The merge is proving to be very7 beneficial for both the company as Lenovo was trying to make an impression in the Mobile market and Motorola trying to survive.

The all-new Moto G6 Play has been rather a budget edition of the G6. But this phone has been promising a really good deal as far as the moto G6 play specs are concerned. Today, in this article, I will be reviewing all the new Moto G6 Play. I hope you guys will be ticking along. Without wasting any time, let us dig into the review real quick.

Moto G6 Play Review: The Awesome Phone!

Moto G6 Play has been in the market from the starting week of May, and it has been creating a hype in the market. Fans, loyal fans of Motorola, are buying this phone and are giving great feedback. We have got our review unit. We have unboxed it already.

Looking at the phone, it has been giving one hell of a mark already. Though the phone is a plastic or high-density polymer as Motorola is claiming, it really looks awesome.

Before giving an initial impression, I would like to go through some aspects which will generate a better understanding of the phone. The aspects are:

  • Design
  • Display
  • Performance
  • Camera
  • Battery
  • Sensors and Other Features
  • Water Resistance

This is the basic aspects which are to be considered before buying a phone. Or you could just stick with me from the very beginning as I will tear the phone apart from you.

Relax! I will not tear the phone. I will be examining the aspects one by one.

The Design of Moto G6 Play: The Polymer Plastic Body or Finger Print Magnet?

First up, the design of Moto G6 Play. As I have mentioned earlier, the phone is made out of plastic. But Motorola claims it to be Polymer Glass. It’s a marketing strategy, really because it is basically plastic. But the glossy finish makes it looks like glass unless you hold it in your hands!

The phone itself has been very sturdy as this unit is weighted around 175 grams. The front part, I mean, the screen is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass, and the frame and the back part is made out of Polymer plastic.

The dimension is 6.08 inches length, 2.84 inches in width, and 0.35 inches in breadth. As per as the dimensions are concerned, the phone is a bit heavier, but you won’t even notice it unless I hand you a lighter phone. But the margin of difference is pretty narrow, and it won’t affect you in any way. So rest assured.

As far as the availability is concerned in terms of color, then the Moto G6 Play comes in four color variants. Deep Indigo, Silver, Flash Gray, and Gold. The review unit which we have with us today is the Flash Grey version of Moto G6 Play. And I must tell you. This is a gorgeous looking phone. But it catches a whole lot of fingerprints and smudges! So if you are super sensitive about keeping your phone spotless, you will be having a hard time, and your friends would probably see you rubbing the phone with the side of your clothing quite often.

And

Now let us speak about the attributes. The front side is the glass display, obviously has the Gorilla Glass protection on it. The bottom bezel is slightly thicker, which is completely unnecessary to me, the side bezels are pretty narrow and do give a nice view when you are playing a video. The top beze3l is just about the perfect size as it has been the home for the earpiece cum front-firing speaker. On the right side of the earpiece is out flash, and on the left side is our front-facing camera and the holes for the sensors.

We cannot see any navigation button because it is basically on screen. The power button and the volume adjustment button is on the right side. The feedback of the buttons is quite good and is giving a solid response as well. On the left side, we have a SIM tray. It supports two Nano-SIM and also has a Micro SD card slot for additional storage expansion.

On the top of the is our all-important 3.5 mm headphone jack and the charging port is USB Type C which settles down in the bottom part of the Moto G6 Play.

And

On the back are the single-camera setup and the camera flash, which is LED, of course. I don’t know why, but the circular camera cut out does really stand out for the phone. It is an unusual design that does seem to attract the audience. So well done, Moto, for making me scratch my head!

The fingerprint scanner is placed or embalmed rather down the signature circular camera cut out. The ‘M’ logo of Moto is inherited on the scanner.

Overall speaking, I kinda like the design. It is very practical and stylish at the same time. But the bottom bezel should have been shrined down a little bit, and Moto G6 Play should have been availing a far more superior frame and built, take aluminum, for instance. I know it will cost a bit more, but 20/30 dollars here and there would not be a problem for the fans.

That was enough talking about the design. Now let us move on to the next segment; The Display of Moto G6 Play!

The Display of Moto G6 Play: The IPS LCD with HD!

The screen has been a pretty good factor when it comes to purchasing a particular phone. 79% of the buyers tend to have the first impression as the last impression in terms of the phone. And if something can make a good impression, then it is the screen as almost everything will appear on that!

Moto G6 Play has been playing safe with IPS LCD panels. IPS LCD has been almost the most picked screen type nowadays, and Moto has not been an exception.

But Moto just crushed my heart as the opted to select an HD Screen rather than going for full HD! This is truly heartbreaking because the phone has the potential to support a full high definition screen!

And

The 5.7 inches IPS LCS panel comes with a resolution of 720 pixels into 1440 pixels. The aspect ratio is 18:9; the typical one so far. (dynamicslr.com) The screen to body ratio is almost 75.2% as far as the thick bottom bezel is concerned. Moto would have done justice if they opted to shrink the bottom bezel by a small margin to make some extra room for the screen to go big.

The protection is Corning Gorilla Glass. Now, you must be wondering what type of protection it is, Gorilla Glass 3 or 5. But Moto has not been in the speaking terms about it. So it is an unspecified version of Corning Gorilla Glass. The screen is pretty bright and vivid. You can stream up to 720 p resolution from the screen, and I must tell you, the results are indeed eyed pleasing!

It worked okay in the bright conditions when I hit down the road with my friends on a bright sunny day. So job well done, Moto!

Now let us move on to the next section real quick, which is the performance!

The Performance of Moto G6 Play: The Snapdragon Delight!

Now let us talk about the factor which I personally look up to before judging a phone. It is the performance section. Now I do believe that the performance of a particular phone lies in the very collaboration of both the software and the hardware. The software will run the phone seamlessly, and the hardware will provide the essential juice for it. So without making an impression too soon, let us judge the phone’s hardware and the Software.

The Hardware of Moto G6 Play

When my colleague showed me the Moto G6 Play Specs, I was pleased to know that the phone has opted to go for the Qualcomm chipsets. Moto G6 Play comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430. Yes, they could have been shooting with a 630, which is a slightly better performing chipset, but 430 is smooth as well.

This 28 nm chipset runs in eight core as you have guessed it. The processors are clocked at 1.4 GHz Cortex-A 53. So it is a decent chipset with a fair amount of clock spend and processing power.

The GPU is Adreno 505 and does give a solid punch in the performance while conducting graphics sensitive tasks.

The RAM comes in two variants; 2 GB and 3 GB and internal storage are 16 GB for the 2 GB RAM and 32 GB for the latter variant. There is an additional Micro SD Card slot available to expand your storage as per your needs.

The Software of Moto G6 Play

The phone runs in Android as Android has been the most favorite OS so far. It runs in Android Version 8.0, which is known as Oreo. But it is upgradable up to Android Version 9.0, which is PIE.

As far as the UI is concerned, Moto has done nothing special and opted to go stock, which is very fine at this range of smartphones. Going Stock Android gives you a better experience overall.

Now, as we examine the collaboration between the Software and the Hardware, the phone did pretty well when we pushed it to the limits. It is a total win-win for the crowd.

The camera of Moto G6 Play: 13 MP and 5!

The rear camera is an f/2.0 aperture 13 Mega Pixels camera with PDAF support. It can click some awesome shots in proper light conditions and can record a video up to 1080p in a frame rate of 30 frames per second. But no real image stabilization has been provided.

The front-facing camera AKA, the selfie camera, is a 5 MegaPixel camera that works fine. But not ideal if you are a selfie lover.

The battery of Moto G6 Play

The 4000 mAh battery does give you a punch with fast charging support of 15 watts.

Sensors and Other Features

The fingerprint scanner is Rear-mounted, and the other sensors are accelerometer, gyro, and proximity.

Water Resistance

It has no waterproofing.

Advantages and Disadvantages

Advantages:

  • Great Power
  • Good Battery

Disadvantages:

  • Plastic Body
  • Thick bottom Bezel
  • No Full HD Screen

FAQs

  1. Does Moto G6 Play have Water Resistance?

No, unfortunately.

  1. Does the USA version and the Global version has the same specs?

No, it differs in some aspects.

Conclusion

So that was it for today, folks. Looking at the Moto G6 Play Specs and the reviewing experience, I must admit that this is a decent phone. An ideal one if you are buying your first phone.
