Elon Musk has a knack for keeping himself at the front and centre of mainstream attention and managed to do so again recently with his offer to buy all the shares of Twitter for $43 billion. The world’s richest man is gradually working on conquering as many industries as possible, with social media appearing to be his next target.

As a personal brand and a household name, it’s wise for Musk to seek to expand his franchise in as many directions as possible. One area that he has failed to dominate so far is entertainment, and this could be something he focuses on in the future.

Entertainment is One avenue Musk is Yet to Conquer

Musk has been a well-known entrepreneur for decades, but it is only in recent years that he has shot to the top of the business world with some clever moves and developments in his companies. The Pretoria-born billionaire has always shown himself to be forward-thinking with his business ideas, concentrating on avenues that he believes will be lucrative in the future. This has included space travel with his SpaceX company, electric cars with Tesla, and technologically advanced brain-computer interfaces with Neuralink.

Musk has had a few forays into entertainment, but he hasn’t made a major mark on the industry yet. Most of his brushes with this world have included cameos in films and television series. The most notable movies to feature the 50-year-old were Iron Man 2 in 2010 and Men in Black: International in 2019. However, his parts in both flicks were minor. He did have an episode dedicated to him in The Simpsons in 2015, and also appeared in The Big Bang Theory and Rick and Morty.

Return to Space Could Lead to More TV Series and Films

It only seemed like a matter of time before Musk started developing links with Netflix and other entertainment services. In April 2022, the streaming giant released Return to Space, a documentary about SpaceX’s mission to send NASA astronauts to the International Space Station. It received mixed reviews, with some publications criticising the inflated two-hour length.

One review in IndieWire suggested that it was an extended advert for Musk himself. Although painted in a negative light in the online magazine, this is something that could be seen as a positive from Musk’s perspective. It has enabled him to get into even more households and heighten his name further, perhaps in preparation for future releases related to his projects.

There has been some talk that a SpaceX movie could be in the pipeline. According to Deadline, Tom Cruise could be the first-ever action star to appear in a feature film set in outer space. Musk’s SpaceX would be heavily involved, with the billionaire serving as a producer to the picture. The company is also expected to make the outer space scenes possible, with the help of NASA. With the space genre already being hugely popular in Hollywood, the next logical step would be to use the real thing as a setting.

Themed Merchandise and Other Offerings Could Be on the Horizon

If Musk is to boost his brand with an influx of entertainment offerings, he’s likely to follow the cross-platform marketing model that has proven to be so successful in the internet age. Nowadays, the top franchises are represented in film, games, mobile offerings, and other forms of entertainment.

There are countless examples where this has proven to be a winning formula. For instance, the Tomb Raider console games have been promoted in other ways, such as the Lara Croft: Temples and Tombs offering found at Betway slots, and the Lara Croft Go mobile app. The Jurassic World franchise was endorsed in a similar way, with slots and mobile offerings available for fans to enjoy.

Musk could easily explore these options, as space is a hugely prevalent theme in these areas of the entertainment industry. SpaceX branded products would attract a lot of interest and help raise awareness about any upcoming films or TV series Musk is producing.

It’s clear that Musk is more than just a man now, he is a brand spanning a diverse range of industries. It won’t be long before he conquers the entertainment sector, and he is likely to do this by promoting his franchise through a variety of platforms.
