Apple launched new iPhones for 2023, but they also made the iOS 17 update available for all iPhones from the iPhone XR up on Monday, September 18, 2023.

iOS 17 introduces new features like contact posters, NameDrop, StandBy, Live Voicemail, FaceTime video voicemail, and a completely revamped Siri voice recognition model. It also includes significant enhancements to autocorrect and dictation, among other improvements.

It’s akin to receiving a complimentary upgrade to a new iPhone. Using your new upgraded iPhone, you can play your favourite online casino games at mr bet. In this article, we will cover everything you need to know about iOS 17, including its features.

Phone

The Phone app introduces contact posters, enabling you to personalize the caller ID for your calls. You have the option to choose a background from your images or use your Memoji, and you can also customize the font and colour.

Maps

iOS 17 introduces the ability to download maps for offline use, marking the first time this feature is available. You can save a specific area of the Maps app and explore it without an internet connection. When you save a map, it preserves details such as business hours and ratings, and it enables turn-by-turn directions even when you’re not connected to cellular data.

Home

The Home app in iOS 17 now shows an Activity History, which tells you who locked or unlocked doors and when. It also displays recent events for garage doors, contact sensors, and security devices.

The app has a new interface for lights that can display multiple colours, and you can control HomeKit devices using interactive widgets.

Photos

In iOS 17, the Photos app can identify pets, including various cats and dogs. Visual Look Up is expanded to recognize recipes and laundry symbols, and it can also work with videos. The Camera app has a better interface for QR codes and includes new levelling tools.

Moreover, Visual Look Up can now identify food in photos. You can simply tap the “Info” button on a dish’s photo and search for similar recipes.

Camera App

iOS 17 introduces an enhanced camera levelling function. When you turn on the Level option, a horizontal line appears on the screen, helping you align and level your landscape shots accurately. Here are other upgrades to note:

  • The Camera app simplifies QR code scanning. The link button now automatically appears at the bottom of the camera interface, making it more convenient to tap.
  • In iOS 17, third-party apps can now support playback and editing of Cinematic mode videos through the newly introduced Cinematic API.

App Store

Now, the App Store app has the capability to display the remaining download time for an app once you initiate the download. When you tap the “Get” or purchase button on an app and see the circular download symbol, it shows the remaining time for the download.

AirPlay

Updates to on-device intelligence enable AirPlay to learn your preferences over time. Devices are organized based on relevance, and you will also receive proactive suggestions for connections based on your past AirPlay usage.

Auto-correct and Keyboard

Apple has implemented a smarter autocorrect system in iOS 17 with a new machine-learning algorithm. Correcting its mistakes is now easier. Autofill has been sped up, and stickers are conveniently located alongside emojis, making them accessible throughout the operating system.

Siri

iOS 17 eliminates the necessity to use “Hey Siri” to activate Siri; instead, you can simply say “Siri” to activate the personal assistant. Furthermore, Siri can now understand and execute multiple consecutive requests without requiring reactivation.

Mail

The Mail app introduces a few new features. You can now autofill one-time verification codes received in Mail directly in Safari without the need to open the Mail app.

Safari and Passwords

In iOS 17, Safari now supports profiles, allowing you to have separate profiles for work and personal use. Each profile has its own history, extensions, cookies, favourites, and tab groups. Switching between profiles is as simple as tapping.

You can also share passwords and passkeys from iCloud Keychain with friends and family members, granting trusted contacts access to shared passwords.

FaceTime

In the FaceTime app, you can now leave video or audio messages when someone misses your call, like you can with a voicemail for missed phone calls. These FaceTime video messages include features like portrait mode and Studio Light.

  • FaceTime reactions bring 3D augmented reality effects to FaceTime using hand gestures.
  • You can use gestures like hearts, confetti, fireworks, and more when using the front-facing camera on an iPhone 12 or later for added fun during your FaceTime calls.

Messages

Apple has made the Messages app look cleaner with a design update. To access all Messages apps and tools, like the camera and photos, you can simply tap the “+” button.

The Stickers experience has been improved, and now all emojis are treated as stickers and are stored in one place. Furthermore, a new safety feature called Check In enables you to inform friends and family about your destination as you head there.

Conclusion

Every iOS update includes Apple’s updates to its built-in apps, and iOS 17 is no different. Nearly every stock iOS app, including phones, messages, photos, notes, reminders, and journals, has received new features.
