Vivo offers great camera experiences in the market, as we are talking about the camera, Vivo Z1 Pro is yet another camera delight of Vivo offering in a mid-budget range. To know more about the phone, do stick with us till the end of this article. We will be reviewing Vivo Z1 Pro in a teardown manner.

Vivo Z1 Pro Review: The Intense Performance with Punch Hole Display Delight!

Vivo has launched its new smartphone, The Vivo Z1 Pro. It was launched by the end of July 2019. Since its launch, people are talking about the smartphone for the punch-hole display module that the phone has to offer. This latest edition has already created a big hype in the market. But is the phone worth that hype? Or people are just fantasizing a bit more than necessary just by having a punch-hole display at this priced point. We will slowly get into the decision by reviewing this unit Vivo sent us.

I admit that Vivo Z1 Pro is something new on the table. The main attraction of this smartphone is its punch-hole display and the processing power. Before making further first look impressions on the smartphone and generate a review, we will have to have a closer look and see what exactly the phone has to offer.

I prefer to examine a certain smartphone in various categories. These categories help one to understand the full potential of the smartphone. The categories are mentioned as follows:

  • Design
  • Display
  • Performance
  • Camera
  • Battery
  • Sensors and Other Features
  • Water Resistance

That was some talking, now let us do what you guys want us to do for you. Let us dig into the review real quick.

Design: The Punch Hole Mirage?

As far as my first impression is concerned, I have been quite impressed with the unit Vivo has sent us. The all-new Vivo Z1 Pro does put a tick mark on the checkpoint, and the checkpoint is Style Statement. It is a very premium looking phone, and people love the fact that there is a Punch Hole Display.

People like to fantasize. They want Apple watches, Lambos and Ferraris, and all they have in their account is a couple of hundred bucks. I am not offending anyone, or this is not an accusation. Relax, all I am trying to say that the things which are a bit pricy and premium do attract the attention of ours, makes us desire things more and more.

This is basic instincts. And brands like Vivo who work on the sentiments and desires of the common people do not fail to recognize the matters real soon. So they have included a punch-hole display inside a smartphone, which is well in your reach. So you will be dazzled and rush to the stores to fulfill your desire.

Having said that, I am too skeptical and sarcastic at the same time. But the design and the style statement of the all-new Vivo Z1 Pro do attract me to some extend. The color gradient does catch some eyeballs and sockets. Though it is made out of plastic, the paint job is so niched that you will be misinterpreting that as a glass back.

And

But when you start to see some scratched along the way, you will be redeemed about your thoughts. The front side is the display which has no real protection or certified protection glasses are not included. The phone has a dimension of 6.39 inches in length, 3.04 inches in width, and 0.35 inches in the breadth. It weighs around 201 grams. Yes, you will be amazed at the phone being a bit on the heavier side despite having a plastic frame. It does amuse me too at first sight, but when I looking into the battery and saw that it has some real juice, then the weight started to be a bit reasonable.

We will talk about the budget a bit later in this review, rest assured. As far as the design is concerned, this phone is a bit chunky and colorful, though the chunky term is in a positive way! I would not rate the product today, step by step. Rather I will be reviewing all the aspects first then rate the sections all at once at the very end of this review.

Display: The Most Awaited Portion of the Review

Perhaps people would buy this phone only by seeing a punch-hole display. Who knows; people and their preferences work in a very funny way. But even if they do so, this particular smartphone will not fail to amuse them as well. They are giving pretty good feedback on this display.

Vivo Z1 Pro comes with an IPS LCD screen with a color count of 16 million. The 6.53-inch display has a small punch hole on the top right. This display is a full high definition display with a resolution of 1080 pixels into 2340 pixels. The aspect ratio is 19:5:9. The screen to body ratio is close to 84%

As far as the display is concerned, the experience is pretty decent, and I kinda like this display very much. The screen to body ratio is almost perfect. I am one of those few people who still want a bit of a base on the edges of the screen to hold on to. The punch hole is a new experience. However, Vivo could have provided an AMOLED display that will certainly derive the crowd as it will increase the price. Having said that, LCD or IPS LCDs, to be exact has been doing a good job in the recent few years, and it has been making no exception as far as all New Vivo Z1 Pro is concerned.

Performance: The Snapdragon Chipset with Android Magic!

Before really coming down hard about the performance of this phone, we should see what’s inside the hood and how the hardware is collaborated by the software itself. So the hardware and the software experiences are described in the following sections:

Vivo Z1 Pro review: Hardware

The Hardware in this smartphone is pretty decent as far as the similar phones in identical price points available in the smartphone market. The chipset is produced by Qualcomm, and it is powered with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 712. This 10-nanometer chipset has been firing with Eight cores altogether. The first two cores are of 2.3 GHz Kryo 360 Gold; The next six are of 1.7 Kryo 360 Silver. The RAM comes in two variants; one is 4 GB, and the latter is 6 GB. As far as the storage is concerned, it also comes in 2 variants; 34 GB and 128 GB. All of them are of version UFS 616. The GPU is of Adreno, and to be specific. It is powered by Adreno 616.

Software

This particular phone comes with an Android version of Android 9.0 PIE. It is upgradable up to Android Version 10. This smartphone runs in a custom interface, and the version is Fun Tough 10. The smartphone is very smooth as per as the user experience is concerned.

After the performance test, this phone has proven to be pretty decent as per the rates are in play. In AnTuTu, the rating is 184517. In GeekBench, the score is 6001, and it rated around 13 fps in GFXBench. Altogether the performance is very good compared to the mid-budget range. Yes, the Funtouch version 10 was a bit of a stretch but was ‘okay okay’ when we consider this in a daily life basis.

Camera: The 16 Mega Pixel Triple Camera Factor!

The triple camera setup in the rear camera module is not an astonishing feature anymore as most of the mid-range budget smartphones has been playing with similar camera modules in recent times. However, Vivo has been doing some wonders in the camera units itself.

The All-new Vivo Z1 Pro comes with a 1.16 Micrometer 16 Mega Pixels camera with an aperture count of f/1.8. It is a wide camera and works just fine in the equivalent conditions. The second camera is an ultra-wide 16 millimeter 8 Mega Pixels camera with an aperture count of f/2.2. This 1.2-micrometer lens allows you to click ultra-wide images, but the quality does downgrade a little bit when the light dims off gradually. The last camera is a depth sensor of 2 Mega Pixels.

The selfie camera is installed in the exciting punch hole, and the camera is doing a decent job whatsoever. This camera comes with a 32 MegaPixel wide camera with an aperture count of f/2.0. The 26 mm lens does cover a lot of distortion sideways and gives you a wide-angle experience.

The pictures are pretty sharp and crisp when the light condition is in favor of the phone. However, there is visible noise and distortion when the light goes down a little bit. The video experience is decent as we speak. The rear camera supports 4k recording with a frame count of 30 fps, 1080p at a frame rate of either 60 frames per second, or 30 frames per second. And as per the front camera is concerned, it can record in 1080p at a rate of 60 fps. No image stabilization is detected in the review unit, which is a major setback for a brand like Vivo.

Vivo Z1 Pro review: Battery

Long battery life is a dream for any smartphone user on this planet. You won’t find a single person who likes to put his phone into charging after every 7 or 8 hours usage. We are in search of devices with longer battery life and lesser charging time.

Good news for us, we are in for a treat with Vivo Z1 Pro. Vivo has been a proud brand with great power offerings in smartphones. And the all-new Vivo Z1 Pro comes with a whopping 5000 Mili Ampere Hour battery. This little piece of excellence is a real powerhouse that provides you more than 24 hours with juice.

But a big battery means more and more time in charging. But not to worry folks, Vivo has included fast charging in this phone. The package comes with an 18 Watt power brick and USB Type C. So do not worry about waiting hours and hours to fill up your device!

Sensors and Other features

The fingerprint is rear-mounted and is in the perfect place. All the sensors like accelerometer, Gyro, Proximity, and Compass is included in the phone for a smooth performance. This phone is equipped with all the exciting features that a typical Vivo Smartphone has to offer.

Water Resistance

This smartphone, as like the fellow budget mates in the market, has no real protection as far as the water resistance is in play.

Advantages and Disadvantages:

Vivo Z1 Pro review: Advantages:

  • Smart Design and Punch Hole Display
  • 5000 mAh battery
  • Cool gradients and Color Combinations

Vivo Z1 Pro review: Disadvantages:

  • No Gorilla Glass
  • Water Resistance (No)
  • No AMOLED Display

  1. Is Vivo Z1 Pro Waterproof?

No, it is not.

  1. Is Vivo Z1 Pro wireless charge supportive?

Z1 Pro has fast charged and reverses charging. But it does not have any wireless charging facility.

Conclusion

As we speak, Vivo has done a pretty decent job as the Vivo Z1 Pro is cruising along just fine in the market. Like every smartphone, it has some shortcomings. Despite the shortcomings and focusing on the good and cool features, I will rate this smartphone a solid 8 out of 10. Thanks for reading the article. I hope to see you soon.
