Xiaomi Poco M2 Pro

Xiaomi is the biggest Chinese name in the smartphone world. This company has been spreading its empire not only in the smartphone arena but also in consumer electronics. Chinese does know how to attract people. Take Xiaomi as an example. Xiaomi has been making almost every possible electronics a person might need. Even a toothbrush!

But we will not make a debate about that. Today we will be discussing a phone which is making some headlines. The Poco phones were making a huge impact in the tech world when Xiaomi announced it. Poco phones came with the flagship specs, but the price tag was well in reach. I still remember the hype that Poco F1 created. Now, Xiaomi has announced yet another Poco phone, the Xiaomi Poco M2 Pro. It is expected to be launched in the latter half of July 2020.

This phone is going to be one hell of a phone. I can already tell that by looking at the specs which Xiaomi has revealed. It is indeed mouthwatering. So without waiting any longer, let us see what this phone is going to bring on the table.

Xiaomi Poco M2 Pro Specs: Brand New Snapdragon and More!

There are some distinct categories where a phone can be measured according to the specs provided by the manufacturer. These criteria allow you to make a clear understanding of the phone. The categories are given as follows:

  • Design
  • Display
  • Performance
  • Camera
  • Battery
  • Sensors and Other Features
  • Water Resistance

Let us move on to the first segment, which is the Design of Xiaomi Poco M2 Pro.

Design of Xiaomi Poco M2 Pro: The Sleek and Smart

Poco M2 Pro Review | NDTV Gadgets 360

So, another Poco in the house! But boy, oh, boy! Isn’t this a beauty? But do you remember the fat and hefty first-generation Poco phone? If you do, then you will be giving a standing ovation to this particular edition.

You can see it for yourself. Finally, Poco phones look gorgeous. This phone has a Note 9 Pro vibe. I won’t deny that for sure. But that is eventually a good thing, right!

The phone is available in 3 color variants. But the names are pretty hilarious. The first one is named Out of Blue, which is blue. The second one is known as Green and Greener. And last but not least, Two Shades of Black. I think the promotion and marketing team has certainly upgraded their sense of humor as far as the naming of the colors is concerned.

Moving on

The dimensions of the phone are pretty solid, to be honest. It is measured at 6.53 inches in length. That is just about the perfect length. The width is measured around 3.02 inches. Honestly speaking, the phone is a shy wider than usual. And talking about the thickness of the phone, it is just about normal as well, measuring around 0.35 inches in the breadth. The front side is the screen with a punch-hole display. It is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The backside is also made out of glass. The back is also protected by the same Corning Gorilla Glass 5.

Now let us focus on the attributes. As far as the pictures are revealed by Xiaomi, the phone seems to be pretty identical to the Redmi Note 9 Pro. On the right side of the phone, we have the lock button and the volume adjustment button. On the left, we have the SIM and Micro SD Card Tray. There is a dedicated Micro SD Card Slot if that matters to someone who needs a bit of storage. On the top, we have the all-important 3.5 mm headphone jack. On the bottom portion, we have the speaker grills and the USB Type C connector.

Camera module

The Camera module is a square module, which is a quad camera setup. There is a dual-LED flash just beneath the camera unit. The branding of the Poco is on the bottom portion of the back part. The phone is weighted at around 209 grams. So, it might feel a bit heavier than usual. But as you will use it daily, it will suit your biceps and triceps.

So that was almost everything which is concerned or connected with the design of the phone. Now let us shift the spotlight on the screen itself.

Display of the Xiaomi Poco F2 Pro: The IPS LCS in 2020?

Yes, you heard it right, this phone will hit the stores in the market with an IPS LCD screen. Feeling a bit disappointed, right??? But let us see at what cost the phone will be delivered to us. The phone has an estimated price tag of 170 Euro. That means the phone is a lower mid-budget smartphone. A lower mid-budget smartphone with an IPS LCD screen is pretty standard, right? You cannot ask for an AMOLED in this price range as an AMOLED Screen is twice as expensive as the LCD ones.

Moving on, the screen will support HDR10 contents as it is a full high definition screen. The resolution is 1080 into 2400 pixels. The aspect ratio is going to be a staggering 20:9 thanks to the punch hole cut out for the selfie camera. The screen to body ratio is almost close to 84.5%. So the viewing experience will be pretty awesome, I guess.

Xiaomi is claiming that the phone is going to be very bright. The nits count will hit 450 as the typical brightness. If that proves to be true, then this screen is bringing a lot on the table. As I have said before, this screen comes with the faithful protection of Corning Gorilla Glass 5. So the screen will be scratch proof.

That was the screen and its expected performance. Now we will move on to see what is under the hood of this phone and what runs the engines. I am talking about the performance of Xiaomi Poco F2 Pro.

Performance of the Xiaomi Poco F2 Pro: The Brand New Snapdragon 720G!

The performance of a typical smartphone is measured according to the role-play of the Hardware and the software unit altogether. So we will be extracting the stakes of the said units one by one and predict the performance benchmarks.

The Software Unit of the Xiaomi Poco F2 Pro

This phone will have the latest version of Android 10. The MIUI will also be the latest MIUI 11. There is a constant problem in the MIUI system that some of the consumers often complain about.

This has been a proper let down for the UI and Xiaomi. But there has been some news that they are going to fix this in the upcoming updates. Unwanted apps do consume a huge amount of storage, which is a waste. So Xiaomi should look into it.

Other than that, it is a fun UI; the interface is pretty user friendly. The gestures and the smart controls are one of the USP of this phone. But some of the basic applications like the camera or the video player could be better as far as the previous phones are concerned. I hope Xiaomi can do justice this time.

Now let us see what is under the hood of this phone.

The Hardware Unit of Xiaomi Poco F2 Pro

The Hardware is focused mainly on the performance of the chipset. The chipset is the processing engine of any smartphone. The Xiaomi Poco F2 Pro comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset, which is already creating a lot of hype. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G chipset is the new line of mid-range chipset which is capable of producing flagship-like power. This chipset is astonishingly measured in 8 mm! The chipset runs in eight cores with a staggering 2. (www.dynamicslr.com) 23 GHz clock speed.

It is pretty clear that Xiaomi is all set to make a huge bang in the market with the Poco F2 Pro. To be the icing on the top, this phone has a RAM variant of 4 GB and 6 GB. The storage is 64 GB and 128 GB. There is a dedicated SD Card Slot. So, people who tend to store almost all the data in their phone can surely expand the storage with the desired Micro SD Cards.

Overall, Xiaomi is well known for the great collaboration between its hardware and software units. As the specs are concerned, this phone is all set to light the stage in roaring fire. But as the performance is important. So are the cameras. So let us have a quick look at what the cameras are offering us.

Cameras of the Xiaomi Poco M2 Pro: The Quad Camera Prince!

I think the 48 MegaPixel sensor has become a trend in the smartphone arena nowadays. Almost every small or big companies are using the same sensors as their main camera. But not all of them are doing proper justice to the Hardware.

The rear camera, as you have already read, comes with a quad-camera module. The main camera is the expected 48 Mega Pixels wide-angle camera. The camera has a 26mm sensor. It is a pretty big sensor, which is pretty helpful for generating more information regarding the photo. The aperture is of f/1.8.

The second camera is an ultra-wide camera. An ultra-wide camera has a gigantic viewing angle. For this phone, the distorting angle is almost 119 degrees. The camera is of 8 Mega Pixels. The aperture count of this camera is f/2.2.

The third camera is a macro lens. So, macro lenses are capable of shooting photos of objects which are extremely miniature and cannot be viewed with a naked eye. However, this camera is of 5 Mega Pixels with an aperture count of f/2.4.

Fourth camera

The fourth camera is not a camera. It is a depth sensor. It is of 2 Mega Pixels, and it has an aperture count of f/2.4 as well.

The front-facing camera is 16 Mega Pixels. It is also a wide camera. It has an aperture count of f/2.5.

Now let us talk about how the images might turn out to be. As far as the Xiaomi’s picture quality is concerned and the Hardware this phone has, we can expect some pretty decent shots. The cameras have large sensors. For example, the main camera has PDAF. So, which means the focusing will be on point, and the light controlling will be phenomenal.

AS for the videography, the main camera can shoot up to 4k video recording at the frame rate of 30 frames per second. But there is no stabilization offered in this format. For additional gyro-EIS stabilization, the quality will have to be downgraded to the 1080p or 720p with a frame rate of 30/60/120 or 960 frames per second, respectively.

Now let us see what the power management components included in this phone are.

The battery of the Xiaomi Poco F2 Pro: Whopping 5000 mAh!

Finally, the phone has a staggering 5000 mAh non-removable battery. And to charge this bad boy up, Xiaomi has included a 33 Watts fast charging. But there is no indication yet about the Quick Charge 2.0 inclusion. So, It would be best if the phone supports this tech. If it does, it will take much lesser time to get fully charged up.

Water Resistance

This phone does not come with any IP certification. However, the phone is sealed with a water-repelling coating. That means it can outstand some significant splashes. But heavy downpour or dumping the device into the pool is not smart. You can lose your phone.
